The WORKREADY Program is a tuition-free career preparation program that has evolved to meet the needs of our clients and to prepare them to succeed in today's competitive, global job market. It provides the support and opportunity for women to become successful workers and offers concrete skills and strategies to help them move into better paying and new careers.
This comprehensive program includes an individualized orientation and assessment, a group-based workshop series, professional networking opportunities, and referrals to an extensive association of Women's Center business and community partners. Career Coaches work one-on-one with new participants to welcome them to the program and identify their unique needs, goals, and skill set. Women are screened for eligibility and referred to various agencies that provide facilitated access to emergency services, work supports and public benefits, such as food stamps, food pantries, public health insurance, child care resources, and housing assistance, as well as, eviction prevention, emergency shelters, domestic violence services and rental assistance.
The Program is offered in an intimate, dynamic environment that supports women as they navigate their journey to economic self-sufficiency. Participants receive individualized attention from the Women Center's experienced Career Coaching Staff; support from a small cohort of peers; and the opportunity to engage with expert guest instructors from the corporate, public, and private sectors. Participants also benefit from access to our Self-Sufficiency Calculator, which provides personalized, expense-based household budgeting and screening for work supports including the Earned Income Tax Credit, subsidized Child Care, Food Stamps and Public Health Insurance. This is particularly critical for women who are struggling to make ends meet as their job search continues; it is also critical for women employed in part-time and low-wage occupations at salaries that make them eligible for the income supports described above.
